The project's theme evolves from personal experiences, selecting a broad concept of belonging and familiarity as its research focus. The investigation is carried out based on London's Chinatown. During the exploration of this area, I discovered that the cultural elements in this region have become iconic representations. I began to explore the cultural familiarity these elements, imbued with cultural meanings, bring to people with a Chinese cultural background, namely the visual perceptual forms that this abstract phrase evokes in people. I chose the lantern, a symbol of familiarity with Chinese culture, and through decontextualization, I aim to revive the cultural meanings behind these elements. By recontextualization, these meanings are presented in new ways within our present daily lives. Audiences can engage in assembling lanterns on-site, fostering diverse visual interpretations of cultural familiarity.
